The final presentations for the 2024 Jug and Mengi Trophies were concluded on Wednesday, congratulations to Ashraf Mahomed for claiming The Mengi Trophy. The Mengi is the Individual Knock Out Trophy and in order to qualify, members are required to play the in the February & March Mugs, where the top 16 players with the best accumulated net scores over the 2 months go through to the knock out stages. This year’s Spring Treatment schedule of work will be different to previous years because the final league fixture of the year is hosted at VCC.
The fairways, tee boxes, and surrounds will be worked on first on Monday, the 26th, and Tuesday, the 27th of August. The hollow tinning of the greens will start at 10h30 on Sunday, the 1st of September, and the course will remain closed until the start of the Wednesday afternoon field on the 4th of September. A few weeks ago, we started the first phase of the Cynodon Project on the greens by spraying smaller selected areas. This resulted in areas dying off, which then made them ready for resodding with hexagonal sodds which are sourced from the nursery adjacent to the 12th tee.

The Springboks and Proteas did SA proud last week and now it is crunch time for the Springboks this Saturday. The format for Saturday’s competition is a 4 BBBS and we have 2 golf shirts to give away to the best dressed 4-ball that shows the Bokke some support.
Thank you to those that have submitted photographs. Interestingly enough, at this stage the 12th hole is understandably one of the most photographed parts of the course. Keep them coming in!

This Saturday is the opening day of the Padel Courts at VCC. The day will be a fun-filled day and all play will be free which will include an exhibition match from the top Padel players from KZN and a celebrity match.
At last, the Padel courts should be ready by the last week in September. We will have 3 courts and the bookings will be booked on an app called Playtomic. Hire Padels will be available as well.

The golfers that played in Wednesday’s competition were greeted on the 16th tee with a selection of hickory clubs that were required to complete the remaining three holes on the back nine.
